Black and White

For this task, we were told to draw rings of a 200 year old tree (concentric circles) which are no more than 3mm apart, by using dry media and different techniques. The idea of task was to discover other ways of drawing and making mark, as well as to explore unusual ways of collecting data.

I used 4B pencil to create this drawing and used my wrong hand which is why the lines are  really 'shaky' and  the circles are dis-formed. Drawing with my left hand proved harder than expected because it was hard to have much control over the marks and motion of the pencil.
2 mins using oil bar. As I applied more pressure to create used bold lines, I think this drawing carries more depth and energy.

Soft Pastel. I held the pastel in the centre throughout the drawing  which limited the movement of my arm. I noticed that the first 10-20 circles were quite easy to draw but as the rings started getting larger, I was forced to move my arm more in order to reach outside the rings, this caused the lines to break in the middle. I really like these broken marks as they add a feeling of looseness to the drawing.
