If you fold a piece of velvet you get a lighter hue on one side and darker on the other. This is what I have interpreted in this sample, using two threads from my colour scheme. There is a variety of bleak colours in this piece which  seems rather intriguing and adds depth to the fabric. I find it challenging to work with velvet as it can end up looking very unsophisticated, however I believe I have produced a very successful sample here by incorporating net.

Potentially one of the best hand stitched sample I have created so far. I have discovered that creating layers in my samples give the work a more developed outlook. I have demonstrated some risk taking in this sample by using colour. We were advised to use black and white but I wanted to push my limits and create something more intense and complex by incorporating some of the colours from my colour palette.
