Digital Print

Today we had a digital print workshop where we created motifs on Adobe Illustrator. I have used this software before but my knowledge was still limited until today's session. I kept digital notes whenever I did something new, for future references and to include in my technical file. Although I learned lots of new things, I don't think I was ready to develop my motifs digitally yet. I was quite clueless on where to start or which drawing to select which resulted in a slow start and some struggle in coming up with an effective motif.

First two motifs look too simple and limited in variety so I played about with the types of shapes I can produce by sticking to my original idea of wheels/circular forms.

I like this last motif the most because there is so much variation, however I think it can still be developed by taking sections of it and enlarging it or spacing out the shapes a bit more. Also, some of the shapes are too thin so I will need to make them a bit more bold (nothing less than 0.5mm preferably). My motifs are starting to look more decorative and floral which was not what I was trying to achieve therefore I think I will need to go back to my thumbnail sketches and start again from basic shapes and see where that leads me towards.
