Photomontage

This week, I decided to edit all my photographic research of Manchester, in Photoshop by playing about with layers, scale and colour to create a series of collaged photographs (photomontage).

Yesterday, I took photos of some seedpots which reminded me of a rabbit hole, so I inserted an image of Alice falling down and distorted the pictures various times by adding different effects.

In the top two pictures, I played about with altering the scale and layering. In the story, at first Alice was too short to reach the door knob but after eating the cake, she grew too tall to pass through the it. This is my interpretation of the scene using a photograph that I took last week.
I quite like the effect I achieved in the last photograph as it looks more animated and imaginative rather than just a plain photographic representation of the scene.

Whenever I think of Alice in Wonderland, I picture surreal landscapes with unusual shades, such as purples, blues and blacks. I tried to capture these images I get in my head of Wonderland by being very imaginative with the colour palette I use. I altered the hues of the photographs that I took around the city to create surreal scenes and layered some characters on top. I think the end result looks like a contemporary storyboard of Alice in Wonderland.
